Iona Abbey
The Abbey was rebuilt by the Iona Community with the support of many people and organisations throughout the world and is now to come under the control of Historic Scotland.
The Iona Community is an ecumenical Christian community, founded in 1938 by the late George MacLeod (Very Rev. Lord MacLeod of Fuinary). The Community is committed to seeking new ways of living the Gospel in today's world. Gathered around the rebuilding of the ancient monastic buildings of Iona Abbey, but, with its original inspiration in the poorest areas of Glasgow during the Depression, the Community has sought ever since the 'rebuilding of the common life', bringing together work and worship, prayer and politics, the sacred and the secular.
